Murphed was created through Threadless as a Print-On-Demand merchandising wing of my business. Partnering with Threadless Artist Shops which is another Print-On-Demand service where creators can create their very own accounts to upload their work to their account and take advantage the ever increasing roster of product options offered. I have recently discovered that POD services use an outside manufacturer, which I may start using myself as it would give me greater control and better options.
The Eggs-Men are mutants, a subspecies of ovums who are born with superhuman abilities. The Eggs-Men fight for peace and equality between normal ovums and mutants in a world where anti-mutant bigotry is fierce and widespread. They are led by Charles Eggsavier, also known as Professor Egg, a powerful mutant telepath who can control and read yokes.
“...At Murphed, our mission is to make you look good. Whether you’re into classic styles or the latest trends, we’ve got you covered..
I produced this in response to the large amount of professional fan-art that I have seen becoming very popular, I tried to have a go at the same concept but try and make it more original and distinct instead of just recycling characters.
Because of the wordplay on eggs and x, I thought it would make a clever and witty image which people could really get behind. Using a traditional approach on the piece, using pen and ink on Bristol Board. The image was then scanned into the computer where it was coloured using the same colour values that were used on the comics in the 60’s. Feeling I gave it a nice vintage feel and also tied it in nicely with the subject matter and the origin of the original characters..
