Watchtower Games is a small game publishing company company with big ideas focusing on making exciting and fun games for young adults on up. We are life-long, dedicated gamers with an appreciation and fascination of all manner of game. Watchtower Games is a strong supporter of the gaming community.
Watchtower Games were a new entry into the hobbyist board and card game industry. They were passionate gamers themselves and wanted to place that passion into their own products. Watchtower Games was initially set on a specific design so I had to talk them into letting me actually design the mark. Subsequently I worked through a very wide variety of different approaches and finally we agreed on a the finished design which used negative space to imply the presence on a a tower structure.

Sketchbook
Concepts
I started with researching both the target market as well as the clients industry. This will help me to gain understanding of what direction to avoid so as to create something that will stand out from the crowd a well as avoid looking too similar to others brands on the market.

Digital
Concepts
Taking the idea that I really favoured and which clearly had a great deal of potential and after a lot of sketching and thought I end up moving the image to a more central position. This gave it a Yin & Yang feel while also using the negative space that I wanted.
I liked that the logo then either became an abstract shape which looked interesting or, on further inspection, a tower structure became apparent. Adding a yellow to emphasise the beacon nature of a watchtower completed the logo along with an outline on the logotype.
Branding
Typography
Working through a wide variety of different typographic style I settled upon Ocelot's Piss by Hyrdo74. I really liked the geometry of the font which went well with the rigid and structured ethos presented by the concept of a watchtower which scream authority and order.
With that in mind I was not a fan of the structure of the font as well as how it worked when presented against the logo - which was tall and thin,.With that in mind I set about customising the font so it would fit with what I wanted the overall branding to say. So I merely changed the shape of it, turning it from a tall and thin font to a short and stocky font.

Final
Product
Watchtower Games ended up being . short-lived company due to some bizarre issues with their Kickstarter campaign, used to get the funding to create their first game Fallen. Some of the backer perks when ultimately made available to consumers so those who did back the project perhaps felt as though they did not have the exclusivity they felt entitled to - given they had gotten the project off the ground. Coupled with manufacturing issues the company buckled under the pressure and very unfortunately went under soon after.
