The Big Smoke is planned to be a British stoner comedy focusing on the exploits of friends Saul and Cass who, after a night of excess, find themselves stranded in a rubber dingy in a field in Scotland.
As would be expected with a trailer the boards needed to portray a quick-cut flow that gave the audience the pace and tone of the film, interspersed with slower sections which focussed on the dialogue between the two characters. Of course giving away the whole story was no an option.
This was the first piece of storyboard work I had done in a while so I was getting back into the swing of things as well as the visual language.
The production was going to be very low-budget but with very high aspirations.
At the point of working, there was a final draft completed which was very rough around the edges. There were many, many references to modern popular culture (See the Bad Boy references right, second panel down).
The script was very much influenced by modern stoner comedies, How High, Pineapple Express as well as animated comedy Family Guy.
