Brief
Group Art Show with absolutely no restrictions for the content or direction. The show was spilt into 2 days - the firt was intended for industry professionals - none of whom turned up and the second was for the public so there was a lot of opportunities to sell work and make some money, in theory. I opted to produce the work on cardboard and used the new medium of tea.
Tools
Montana Paint Pens, Speedball Super Black india ink, cardboard, PG Tips tea.
Illustrated brings rings together a collection of the brightest visionaries in contemporary illustration and street art. Focusing solely on contemporary illustration and street art our exhibiting artists represent some of the most exciting practitioners around today – coupled with a vibrant programme of seminars, live art & music.
Having exhibited with the Showcase Cities before in Brick Lane's Café 1001, I was invited to exhibit under the new Illustrated moniker. The event took place in The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane and was open to industry insiders on day one and to the public on the second day.
“...Showcasing not only some of the biggest names in the business, but also... tomorrow’s most promising artists...
The collection for this particular art show consisted of working on cardboard. I had previously used Posterman markers and for this show I thought I would try Montana markers - largely due to economical considerations in that they were refillable and I could buy spare nibs as well.
I had outside work to get done which, thankfully, left me with only a week to come up with concepts and pieces. I had been a while since I had used markers for painting and only actually realised what I had forgotten in the show. I introduced a new medium - tea.
The Truman Brewery, East London's revolutionary arts and media quarter, is home to a hive of creative businesses as well as exclusively independent shops, galleries, markets, bars and restaurants. For over twenty years the Truman Brewery has been regenerating its ten acres of vacant and derelict buildings into spectacular office, retail, leisure and event spaces.
The finely tuned mix of business and leisure has created an environment unique in London, making the Truman Brewery a destination in its own right.
